Mama Kath Tip #1

Mama Kath Tip #1

How early is too early to start a PNC (prenatal vitamin)?

REASONS for starting your Prenatal TODAY! Your baby will be forming its nervous system BEFORE you even know you are pregnant. The basic cell building blocks require B vitamins.B vitamins are not stored in the body. It is important to take them every day.

Your prenatal vitamin will have “extra” B vitamins in it, especially B9 (folic acid) and B12 (cobalamin).

For the health of your children take a daily Prenatal Vitamin.

The most important thing to remember is find one that you like and take it ABSOLUTELY every day.

Stress burns B vitamins.
Your body does not store B vitamins.
Do yourself and your babies a favor and take a vitamin every single day!

Your prenatal will have folic acid, iron and calcium?

Taking folic acid (B9) can lower the chance of brain and spinal cord birth defects. Normally the spine would form and close up. All the nerves run through the spine. If the babies spine does not close, those nerves are vulnerable to damage. Nerve damage can result in paralsis, mental retardation and other birth defects.

In the first 28 days after you conceive, nerve (Neural) tube defects can develop. It is recommended by the Dept. of Health to take 400 micrograms of folic acid each day before and through the first trimester. There are some studies that show taking an enormous dose (up to 4,000 micrograms) one month before and during the first trimester may be beneficial.

You can get folic acid from food as well! Try eating lost of green leafy vegetables, nuts, beans, and citrus fruits.

Calcium while pregnant prevents the loss of your own bone density, because your growing baby will take the minerals it needs for bone growth.

Iron helps the blood of both mom and baby carry oxygen.
